Backup Controlfiles
ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE - makes a binary copy of the controlfile.

ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE - Creates a trace file with the sql command necessary to recreate a controlfile. This has the disadvantage of having no archive or RMAN history in. These scripts are useful for creating CREATE DATABASE scripts.
