That
the club has been successful in getting a £7,000 bid to promote
and develop inner city rowing at the club. The grant came from the Local
Network Fund and is to be used to order some new ergometers, help pay
for some club members to attend a coaching course and to run taster
rowing sessions for a number of inner city schools. The school's will
have the opportunity to attend a number of coached sessions before participating
in a inter-school regatta. The bid was written in partnership with Tanvir
Akram from Derby City Council Sport Development unit. Tanvir is a community
development officer working in the poorer wards of Derby and saw this
as an ideal experience for young people from various ethnic and cultural
groups to participate in a sport that they might not have thought of
or had the opportunity previously. The club is very grateful to Tanvir
for his help in this and is determined for the project to be a success
both in the short term but also the possibility of long term participation
and success. It is also hoped that the bid shall support the cities
new Physical Activity strategy, PESSCL and School Sports Partnership.
It is planned to spend
some of the money to help fund 2 new ergos & a row perfect machine.
